We are pleased to welcome the Farmer’s Daughter Gravel Grinder, now in its 7th year, to PS21 for the first time. A performing arts center presenting theater, dance, music, and contemporary circus, Performance Spaces for the 21^st Century is nestled in an old apple orchard on a pristine 100-acre site of which only 5 acres are developed.

The beginning and ending stages of the 100K ride will traverse some of the new trail network that crisscrosses our 100 acres of meadows, orchards, and woodlands and links to Chatham’s Crellin Community Park.

This summer, PS21 is returning with our second season of Pathways: Blazing Trails for a Sustainable Future, free outdoor performances, arts and environmental education programs, and other events on our grounds and along the new trail system. Activities for young and old include circus arts, self-guided walks focused on ecology and storytelling, and movement classes are just some of Pathways’ 2021 offerings. PS21 was founded in 2005 by Judith Backer-Grunberg (1933–2019), far-sighted environmentalist, nature photographer, and nurturer of the arts. Her support and championing of the Columbia Land Conservancy led to the preservation of 2,000 acres of county land, two-thirds of which is now newly designated state forest.

Her vision of a theater in harmony with nature was realized in 2018 with the opening of our Pavilion Theater. An open-air, roofed stage seating 350 that collapses into collapses into a geothermally heated and cooled black-box for 99, the state-of-the-art structure features one of the only fully LED green theatrical lighting systems in the country.
