A Taste of the Triangle… and Boba
December 5, 2021 @ 08:30 - 12:30 EST
Hey everyone! Today we’re headed East into the depths of Long Island via a route from another local club called the Triangle Cyclists, a seriously fast group of guys who maintain this side of the city as their playground, in the same way we do for Prospect Park and the 9W. I usually like to give everyone a rundown of what to fully expect in terms of terrain, sights, hazards, and whatnot, but to be totally transparent, I haven’t quite done this route before.
I was debating on whether I should hold this ride privately by DM only, but due to the extraordinarily reasonable nature of my pace nowadays (Zone 2 @ 2.5-2.8 W/kg; 16-16.8mph net averages), that this route has been well vetted by the Triangle Cyclists as one of their regular on-season rides, and I expect it to be very similar in backroad scenery to our Oyster Bay ride in October, I decided that it was suitable to throw it up here so we could all explore this neck of the woods together! Also, I thought it would be interesting to mix things up a little, departing from the conventional coffee/donut shop stops, and this time, hitting Coco’s Bubble Tea, where we can sip what’s widely considered the nectar and lifeline of your neighborhood weeb/ABC/ABG (so basically water for me), and perhaps more importantly, refuel a bit more than halfway into the ride.
Logistics:
1) Meet at Nassau Mall @ 8:30AM (Not actually a mall, just a small triangle park off the Horace Harding with PLENTY of street parking)
2) Roll out at a nice chill pace, as described earlier — Zone 2 @ 2.5-2.8 W/kg; 16-16.8mph net ride averages
3) Get Boba @ Coco’s (Mi. 26)
4) Home!!
Warnings:
1) Please bring the route on your head unit in the rare event that you get dropped, just because this is not the 9W.
2) There may be moments where the ride feels painfully slow, particularly up hills. You may think about the quoted “16-16.8” net average, and wonder if I happened to be have additional head-wear on that morning, which I probably am, but only because it’s cold as shit by this time. And it will be very tempting to attack, and I welcome you and anyone else to if you desire, but just know that I won’t follow, and am sticking to a strictly endurance pace, in the interest of managing my training stress.
