Gravel Gang: Old Croton Dam via OCA
March 27, 2022 @ 09:30 - 15:00 EDT
Hey you! This Sunday (March 27) at 9 am, we’re going to take the OCA trail to the Croton Dam! This is a VERY informal ride, but physical and mechanical preparedness is essential.
The Route
• We will meet at 9 am and roll out at 9:30 from Engineers’ Gate in Central Park (90th St & 5th Ave). Our adventure will take us 41 miles north to the Croton Dam with an estimated 1500 ft of climbing.
• The ride will stick closely to the NYCC route “NYC Old Croton Aqueduct Highbridge to Croton Dam & Croton-Harmon” and includes the historic Highbridge and a stop at Croton Gorge Park.
• As noted on their page, there is a steep descent just before Ogden Road (I believe it’s about 33 miles in).
• We will need to cross active intersections and curb cuts are not always where you expect to them to be. A few sharp turns will be required, so go at a comfortable and controllable pace.
• Pin it and save it: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38840099?privacy_code=xrzey0YBsC1snmHC
Ride Notes
• Due to the rough terrain, 32mm tires or greater is highly recommended. Tubeless is also highly recommended but not necessary. Bring extra tubes if thats how you roll.
• Prospect Park is roughly 12 miles away from Engineers’ Gate, please plan accordingly if that is your start location.
• We will take the Metro-North Hudson Line @ Croton-Harmon Station back into the city. Masks are required on trains.
• You can choose to ride back, via the County Trails or Route 9A.
Please remember to bring flat changing tools, an extra tube, riding snacks and water. Weather may cancel. Check our Discord server here for up to minute information.
